The top-six teams – South Dakota State (1), Montana State (2), Sacramento State (3), North Dakota State (4), Jackson State (5), Holy Cross (6) — retained their positions from last week on this week’s Talking Pigskin Division I Football Championship Subdivision Top 25 ballot.

Chattanooga, which posted a convincing victory over a ranked Mercer team, moved up to the No. 7 spot this week while Weber State slid down one spot to No. 8 after suffering its first loss of the season – a 43-38 setback to Montana State.

Colonial Athletic Association member Rhode Island, which is 5-1 against FCS foes, moved up to No. 17 on this week’s ballot. After defeating Elon, 17-10, in Week 7, Rhody survived a seven-overtime affair against Monmouth at the Jersey Shore in Week 8.

Idaho jumps onto the ballot at No. 21 on the strength of a second Big Sky Conference victory in as many weeks. After posting a 30-23 win over the Montana Grizzlies, the Vandals easily handled Portland State in Week 8.

New Hampshire returns to the Top 25 after a 40-22 triumph over fellow CAA member Elon. Meanwhile, Elon, which had been as high as No. 12, dropped off the Talking Pigskin ballot following a second consecutive loss.
